Ohio’s only designated Ebola Treatment Center was created at MetroHealth. The Special Disease Care Unit and a highly-trained team of professionals were developed to serve this need. The Simulation Institute, in conjunction with our Infection Control colleagues, provided regular, highly specialized training for the SDCU team.

Before the SDCU was created, we conducted simulations with the infection control experts and the architects who were charged with designing this unique state-of- the-art unit. Lessons learned from the simulations directly impacted the design and construction of the SDCU.

The MetroHealth Simulation Institute partnered with Infection Control on their grant project, to create the SDCU and better infection control and treatment at MetroHealth. This project began in 2015 and concluded in 2020.
